It is official, Sylvester Stallone is set to reprise his second best known character, RamboRambo V: The Savage Hunt has been confirmed by Stallone.  The film is slated for a 2011 release, and the rumor is Stallone will star opposite Micky Rourke in the film.  Stallone has basically reinvented his image over the past few years with the reprisal of two of his most beloved characters, Rambo and Rocky Balboa.  The fifth Rambo film will most definitely please many fans while others will simply write Stallone off, but he is no stranger to being underestimated.

Stallone's Rocky Balboa was criticized before initial release, but the fact remains that the film is quite astonishing.  Written with eloquence and acted with integrity, Rocky Balboa is a tour de force by Stallone.  The film remarkably reinvigorated Stallone's stunted career.

Stallone then released Rambo, and while the film was not equal to the magnitude of Rocky Balboa, the film was a valiant effort.  Rambo seemed a little contrived upon intial viewing, an effort to capitalize on the success of Rocky Balboa.  Rambo was simply poorly conceived, but the film has interesting moments.

Rambo V: The Savage Hunt could easily go either way.  The premise centers around a future setting where illegal medical experiments have created near indestructible creatures.  The film sounds like a cross between Rambo and Aliens, but the one thing the film does have for it is Stallone.  Stallone is a gifted writer who can craft a delicate story out of the most superficial of premises.  The execution will be key to the film's success; Micky Rourke will definitely help the film.

Stallone is set to reprise the role of Rambo.  in a film with a premise that sounds quite outlandish, it is always best not to write off Stallone before his final cut.  A filmmaker with intelligence, a writer with comprehension, and an actor who has never received his just reception, Stallone is a talent.  2011 promises the return of a beloved character, hopefully a return with all the success that Stallone has the potential to meet.
