If the thought of hundreds of fine wines in one place inspires you, the 25th annual Central Coast Wine Classic July 9th-12th offers four days of tastings, dinners, and auctions in one of the most beautiful sections of California coast. The event benefits many charities in the region, so most costs are partially deductible, but it is essentially a reason for the wine-mad to gather together with their peers for four days of fun. Space is limited and pre-registration is required for most events.
If your tastes run to the palatial, a few specially-priced slots for a lavishly expensive charity dinner at Hearst Castle are still available through the Duke of Bourbon, a Los Angeles-based rare wine and fine spirits purveyor.
The official hotel is the Dolphin Inn Bay Resort, (pictured) where most events will be held, but there are many other hotel options in the area. Rooms tend to be slurped up even more avidlythan the wines, but one good-value choice is the renovated Cambria Pines Inn in Cambria. I remember a charming evening in the restaurant-lounge there a few years back, and the peaceful gardens are exceptional.
