This company, "Get More Vacations" , certainly has an inspiring name - but what I like even better is that they've solved one of the problems of renting a vacation getaway - you sometimes are left high and dry with only a dim idea of what to do once you're there.
Their computerized system allows you to choose whatever activity you'd like to do during your stay, and then it returns a list of properties offering that activity for free. A quick spot check of some of the properties turned up a somewhat-stingy vacation unit hotel just offering unlimited DVD rentals, while a charming beachfront home offered free deep-sea fishing with a local provider. There's also no limitation on how many times you use the free activity - so you could canoe every day, or take the kids to the waterpark every afternoon. Free country-club golf was easy to find, and a number of properties offered more than one activity, all included in the cost of your rental. Here's how it works.
I have to confess, I tend to be a hotel girl on my travels, enjoying the indulgence of, well, being waited upon, m'lady. But for families and for long-term vacations, renting a charming bungalow can be the best and least expensive option. With something exciting to do while there - for free - it gets more and more irresistible.
