There have been some great bargains on travel to Iceland lately - but since they've been from the East Coast, some Left Coasters may have been feeling left out. That's why it's exciting to hear that the main airline serving Iceland, Iceland Air, will be offering year-round service from Seattle to Reykjavik.
Icelandair will also be offering flights from Seattle/Tacoma to London, Paris, Oslo, and Copenhagen.
The new flights start July 23rd, just when things will have heated up in the States and the slightly cooler temperatures of summertime in Iceland will be a welcome relief. Summertime in Iceland offers a taste of every season - the long, long days of sunlight mean that the Icelanders keep enjoying themselves far into the still-bright nights. "I hardly sleep in summer," one Icelander told me. "Sleep is what you do in winter. Summer is for play."
But if you still crave the "ice" part of Iceland, you can go tramping over a glacier, when you're not busy whale watching or enjoying one of the many summertime festivals.
Icelandair also offers a perk that delights any value-conscious traveler - on flights to or from Europe connecting in Reykjavik, you can break your trip in Reykjavik for a few days with no extra charge, making it a perfect way to work in Iceland to your larger itinerary.
Can't wait till summer? Check out the "Spring Spa Getaway" package, an 5-day 3-night experience focusing on relaxation and local therapies - a very indulgent way to experience Iceland.
