If you want to go explore your roots in Ireland, Aer Lingus has a great offer to get you to the Emerald Isle for a 6-night vacation, including air and hotels. This "gem" of a trip is called the "Emerald Package" and it opens starting at $699, plus those usual nasty taxes and fees expected to total about $150.  The lowest rates are from Boston or New York on April departure dates, but even from the West Coast and during the high summer months, the overall price stays under about $1200.

They have an interesting approach - the first night is a pre-booked hotel and then the subsequent nights you choose from an array of bed and breakfasts throughout Ireland. You get a standard-sized car rental included, and you can add on extra nights if you wish. They also offer a final-night upgrade which lets you stay in an Irish Castle.
