Crystal Cruises has joined a number of airlines and cruise companies in dropping the "fuel surchage" which has been added to many tickets when fuel prices shot up to record levels. Now, they've dropped to near-record lows - yet some of those pesky fuel surcharges are still showing up with other operators.
Crystal Cruises joins Disney Cruises and Carnival Cruises, both of whom dropped fuel surcharges recently.
If you bought a ticket in the past few months for future travel on any carrier, and it includes a fuel surcharge, it may be well worth your time to see if you can get that charge dropped or at least reduced. You may find that some carriers are more reluctant than others to make this adjustment; many of them, in moments of fear that fuel prices would soar even higher, signed binding long-term contracts at a price that's much higher than they would pay today. But that doesn't mean that you should pay more today.
