Southwest Airlines has extended the dates for its holiday sale, offering dozens of destinations from $49 one-way, plus the usual taxes and fees. Just book by December 4 and travel December 12, 2008 - February 28, 2009. A 14-day advance purchase applies.
Exact price depends on the day you choose to fly, with Friday and Sunday garnering the highest prices, and these rates apply to almost every destination Southwest serves, excluding Orange County, California and Washington, D.C.
I admit Southwest is a favorite of mine, partly because they are so negative - no fees for two bags of checked luggage, no curbside check-in fee, no change fees. The "real" cost on a Southwest flight may be an even better deal than you think if you have to suddenly haul along an extra suitcase or shift your travel date. The downside? There is no assigned seating. But I think I can handle that.
