What, it isn't a national holiday? Not even in France? Quelle dommage! (What a pity!)
Seriously though, the arrival of this year's new Beaujolais wine on the traditional third Thursday in November should be celebrated, and local Francophiles and oenophiles almost anywhere you are on earth will have arranged for the fresh bottles to be flown in for winetasting events. Most of these are relatively inexpensive celebrations of the young new wine, and they can be a great way of getting to know a new restaurant or wine bar at a good price under very happy, even giddy circumstances.
Now to find my Bastille Day T-shirt and choose a French restaurant within walking distance. After all, Beaujolais is only young once - per year.
