Most people agree that the music scene is very cyclical: the music you liked 10, 20, even thirty years ago always comes back into fashion. Currently we’ve been seeing a revival of the 80’s hair band reunions, with many of those bands getting back together to tour to the delight of many longtime fans and their children. And, just in case your favorite band isn’t coming to LA anytime soon, chances are that you can still catch them live in the form of a tribute band somewhere in Southern California.
The tribute scene has been going strong for several years now, and many bands find it a profitable way to make a living doing what they love – playing music. Many promoters also see it as a guaranteed draw, as one typically knows what to expect when they go to see a tribute to a certain band. Most of the tribute this writer has come across tend to be of the rock/pop genre, anywhere from 80’s new wave and pop [Candy O (The Cars), London Calling (The Clash)] to hard rock/heavy metal [ThundHerstruck (AC/DC), the Iron Maidens (Iron Maiden)] to more classic bands [In Color (Cheap Trick), Desperado (The Eagles), as well as more recent bands [No Duh (No Doubt)].
Paladino’s, in Reseda, is also well known for their tribute night weekends, as are McMurphy’s Tavern in Pasadena, Brixton South Bay in Redondo Beach, and the Canyon Club in Agoura.
So, if you are looking for something fun to do on a weekend night, why not check out your favorite band in the form of their tribute? You’ll likely have a blast reliving the good old days and you’ll know the words to all the songs!
