Works by Catherine Borg on display at Trifecta Gallery

When is news about public transportation advances relevant to the arts community? When it's ACE, the new rapid transit system the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is building to connect the major population centers of the Las Vegas Valley. Why? Because the RTC, along with the City of Las Vegas and Clark County, worked with local artists to design aesthetic enhancements to the new ACE transit shelters as part of the "Stop and Glow" project.

The efforts of those artists – Catherine Borg, Stephen Hendee, Evan Dent, Danielle Kelly, Sean Russell, Todd VonBastiaans and Brian Porray – take over the walls of the Arts Factory (107 E. Charleston Blvd.) in two different galleries over the next month. At the Contemporary Arts Center gallery, curator Beate Kirmse exhibits the process of translating the artists' work into public art projects. Meanwhile, at Trifecta Gallery, owner Marty Walsh is showing current works from the "Stop and Glow" artists in order to show their development in the studio since working on the transit project.

The CAC show runs through May 23 and the Trifecta exhibit through May 29. Both galleries will be open during May's First Friday art walk, with a preview reception at Trifecta held tonight from 5 to 9 p.m.
