On a on a sunny Saturday morning that the Town of Glendale would love to have on order for each rugby match at Infinity Park, the Glendale Raptors hosted the St. Louis Sabres Rugby Football Club.

Glendale’s women dominated the Sabres from the outset, scoring three trys in the opening six minutes.

The Raptors consistently caught St. Louis out of position and passed the ball on stride to rack up six more first half trys before the end of the first forty minutes and took a 55-3 lead into the break.

In the second half, the game settled down and each team scored two converted trys to bring the final score to 69-17.

Glendale’s inside centre, Katie Thoreson, lead the scoring for the Raptors with 24 points. Thoreson opened the scoring with a try between the posts, added her second try in the closing minutes of the first half, and was seven of eleven for conversions.

The Raptors hope to extend their winning streak to three in a row when they take on the Boulder Babes on Saturday at Infinity Park. Kickoff is at 11:30.

The Sabres return home for their home opener on Saturday September 12 where they will play a double header against Austin and Memphis.

New to Rugby?
Rugby is normally played in two forty-minute halves (thirty for high school) with a ten-minute halftime. The clock continues to run through the game unless a serious injury prompts the referee to stop time.

A try scores five points and a successful conversion (like a PAT in football) is worth two points.
