It may still be July, but schools across the state are already preparing for the upcoming school year. This also means that schools across the state are preparing for high school sports seasons.
For some schools this means finding new coaches. Yesterday, the Nashua Telegraph released on article on Hudson native Frank Girginis. Girginis has been coaching the Hudson Memorial Middle School Girls Basketball team for the past 5 years. In those five years, the Colts have been to five Tri-County championship games, and won the title in 2007 after an undefeated season. On his off season, Girginis also coaches Girls soccer and track. So basically, he has no off time. However, Girginis has bigger fish to fry.
Girginis told the Telegraph that "It's been one of [his] goals be a Varsity coach, and [he] knows [he's] ready." Well word travels fast apparently, because another person thinks he's ready too: the Athletic Director of Goffstown High School. Girginis was offered the Head Coach position of the Varisty Girls Basketball team in Goffstown.
However, Girginis has some challenges ahead of him. Goffstown finished the season in the bottom third of the Class L standing last year, finishing with a record of only 5-15. Girginis isn't too worried about his chances though. "Your talent is only going to win you so many games," he said to the Nashua Telegraph. "But it's your hard work, preparation, and team play that are ultimately going to win you a championship."
Only time will tell what improvements Girginis can make in the upcoming season. I do know one thing for sure though: I will be watching. Until then, see you on the fields.
