It’s coming to that time of the year. The time when the academic calendar is ending and graduating seniors have to decide on where they’re going to college. Friday, April 17, was the first of many prospective freshmen days for American University. Students from all over the United States came to look at AU one more time before they made their final decision of where to spend the next four years of their lives. They spent the day touring American and some even spent the night with an older student.
But for most prospective students, the day began at 9 a.m. with a presentation and speech from Bender Auditorium. Then, there was an internship seminar. Here, students learned that D.C. is run off of interns and of all the great internship possibilities. Next came lunch, once again in Bender. The prospective students weren’t served the normal TDR lunch. Instead, tables were set up, and they had a delicious meal. Each table was hosted by a leading figure in the school. For instance, Natalie Lee’s and Ashley’s table had the chairman of the board of advisors. Then, when they finished eating, students were shuffled into another seminar, this time separated by the school which they had been accepted. At this seminar, they learned what to expect from their school and different opportunities that they would have.
Natalie Lee, from Texas, loved her day at American University. She thought that the prospective student day was a perfect way of selling the school. It defiantly helped her make her decision. However, Natalie didn’t like the fact that, during the day, she wasn’t able to meet many new students. Instead, she was kept with either the same people or busy the entire day.
Prospective freshmen days will be happening every Friday until the end of the academic year.
