Last Saturday, Alpha Phi Omega, Delta Phi Epsilon, and SUB hosted a Stay Awake-a-thon. It cost $10 dollars to enter and went from around 11pm until 7am that morning. The evening started off with board games, coloring, and pop pong. At first, there was a pop pong tournament but it turned out so popular that teams played pop pong and flip cup all night.
Next, later on that evening, a game corner was set up. Guitar hero was popular all night. People took turns playing guitar, bass, drums, and singing all night. There was also a Wii, PS2, Nintendo 64, and many other games.
After the pie eating contest, around 2am, everyone started to disperse. By 4, there were only a handful of people left, but that didn’t stop them from having fun. With coffee in hand, they sang Backstreet Boys songs and danced their hearts out until their feet hurt and they felt as if they couldn’t stand up straight any longer. So, a small circle was formed and games that didn’t require much energy were played.
This was the most successful Stay Awake-a-thon in history. All of the proceeds go to American University alumni Beth Plewa. She was sent to the Dominican Republic for the Peace Corps. Now her time is up and she is still living among the Dominican Republican population. Plewa lives in a small village and with the money from Stay Awake-a-thon hopes to build a library that’s lights will always be on to those who need it.
