Weee! What a fun show! Thank goodness it’ll be back next month for a new season – without this show and the Bachelorette, I feel kind of lost.

Anyway, let’s get started. Usually, I bag on Cat’s outfits, but she looks awesome tonight. I’m loving the drapey frock she’s sporting. And dare I say it…but I think Cat is growing on me. She’s much less annoying that I previously thought.
The kids open tonight with a big ‘ol group number from The Wiz. Like all group routines, it’s amazing, but there’s so much going on, you don’t know what to focus on. But it’s pretty cool…
After a highlight reel of this season’s action, we also see a quick recap of last night’s dancing. Before we get to any results, Cat lets us know that the judges will tell us some of their favorite dances from this season and we’ll get to see encore performances – weee!
First up, Adam Shankman chooses to see a Hip Hop routine by Jeanine and Philip, choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon. This routine is from the first live show of the season. They dance to “Mad” by Ne-Yo. I loved it then and I still love it now. The choreography is awesome, Philip is, of course, awesome at Hip Hop, and fan-favorite Jeanine looks amazing doing a style that’s not her own. It’s a keeper!
Nigel asks to see Janette and Brandon’s Argentine Tango once more. This one was choreographed by Leonardo Barrionuevo and Miriam Larici. They dance to “Libertango” from Forever Tango (original Broadway cast album). For a ballroom routine, which is always a little less exciting to me, this is incredible. It’s because I love these two…they’re just so damn good! Janette looks smooth and sharp, and Brandon is flawless.
Debbie Allen wants to see Vitolio and Asuka’s Waltz, choreographed by Louis Van Amstel. They dance to “Dreams are More Precious” by Enya. Although it’s pretty and they dance well, in my original critique I raved about this routine calling it awesome and beautiful. I’m not as blown away this time around. Perhaps that’s because this routine was from earlier in the season and since then the standards have been raised so much higher. I also mentioned it looks like Asuka is pooping a little bit during the performance. Yeah, I definitely didn’t get that feeling this time around. Whatever I meant…
Mary next asks to see a repeat of Jason and Jeanine’s Contemporary routine – the kick-ass one choreographed by Travis Wall. They dance to “If It Kills Me (The Casa Nova Sessions)” by Jason Mraz. It’s a beautiful song, and a beautiful routine, and Travis was lucky these two danced it. At the end, they make out a bit, and Jeanine admitted in an earlier interview with Cat, that kiss wasn’t choreographed. Whoa!
Mia Michaels chooses a Louis van Amstel Samba for her encore. Kayla and Max dance to “Jum Bah Day” by House of Gypsies. This dance is also from the first show. I was impressed with Kayla then, and I still am, but I also don’t think she’s super interesting to watch. Max is incredible in this dance…I forgot about his sweet face!
Before we get to more encores or any results, we see some highlights from earlier in the week. Apparently, the contestants were surprised with an early screening of the new movie, Fame, which stars Kherington from a previous season. I know I’m going to see this damn movie, aren’t I?
Debbie Allen now asks to see a group number one more time. It’s a good call…the routine she wants to see again features the top 16 dancers and it’s really awesome. It’s fun to watch, with a mix of interesting choreography. Tabitha and Napoleon, along with Ballroom Dancer, Dmitry Chaplin, choreograph this one. They dance to “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” by Pitbull, which is an awesomely catchy song.
Now for a random performance by the “So You Think You Can Dance Australia” winner, Talia Fowler. She dances to “Shot You Down” by Audio Bullys. Sonya Tayeh choreographs her and it’s weird! But I love Sonya’s weirdness, so I’m entertained. Although I’ll say I think most of America’s top ten dancers are better than her. Go USA!
Next, Lil C chooses the Bollywood number as one of his favorites. Caitlin and Jason danced this one, to “Jai Ho” from the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack. It was super cool and different and it still is – it’s really impressive actually. I’m a fan. Plus Jason is just hot. He gets to make out with Caitlin at the end of this song, too. Lucky gal…
Finally, the top four contestants come on stage and Cat tells us she’s going to tell one contestant “their journey is over”. She announces the 4th place contestant is Kayla. I’m not really surprised. Yes, she’s amazing, but there’s something not captivating about her. She definitely wasn’t as loved as good ol’ Evan.
Onto more performances…Adam now chooses a Mia Michaels Contemporary routine, danced by Evan and Randi to “Koop Island Blues” by Koop featuring Ane Brune. This routine is better known as the “ass routine”. I love this silly routine. It’s cute and quirky and I really like watching Randi dance…It’s a memorable one, that’s for sure.
Mary wants to see Jeanine and Brandon’s awesome, yet scary, Paso Doble from the previous night. This one was choreographed by Louis Van Amstel and danced to “Tetsujin” from the Matrix Revolutions Soundtrack. It’s really good - awesome actually...but I’m annoyed we have to see this again, since we just saw it last night. But it’s still great.
More results…Evan, Brandon and Jeanine remain and Cat now tells Evan that he’s the 3rd place finisher. Yes, he’s a fan favorite, but he definitely wasn’t as good as Brandon or Jeanine, so I’m glad he didn’t win. But I still love him.
Nigel would now like to see a replay of another Mia Michaels Contemporary routine. Next to the Breast Cancer routine, this number might be one of the most memorable dances of the season. This number about addiction is danced by Kupono and Kayla and it’s pretty awesome. They are both totally believable and it’s a bit captivating. I think Kupono rolled his eyes back into his head a couple times, which was a bit creepy, but overall, it’s a good one!
Oh great, a performance by the Rage Boyz Crew. Yes, it’s entertaining, but I think it’s annoying that most of their notoriety comes from the fact there’s a tiny, cute, little boy dancing in the group. Plus there are approximately 42 people on the stage, so it’s a bit hectic. But it’s good, and they get a ton of applause.
Now, Tyce wants to see Doriana Sanchez’ insanely fast Disco, danced by Brandon and Janette to “Loving is Really My Game” by Brainstorm. This dance is insanity. It’s so fast and it’s so good…it’s totally amazing. This might be my new favorite routine of all time on this show. It doesn’t hurt that Brandon and Janette are my two favorite dancers from this season. In my original critique of this dance I said they danced the crap out of it…they pretty much did that again. Awesome!
Finally, Mia chooses to see an encore of the infamous “Breast Cancer” routine. This heartbreaking, amazing routine was choreographed by Tyce Diorio and danced by Melissa and Ade. They dance to “This Woman’s Work” by Maxwell. It’s a perfect routine, and almost as touching the second time I see it. At the end of it, most of the judges and audience are bawling, as is Christina Applegate, who is sitting in the audience tonight.

Your Winner, Jeanine! Photo courtesy of FOX |
Before the final results, we see an encore performance of a Mia Michaels group routine, featuring the top eight dancers. They dance to “One” from A Chorus Line (Original Broadway Cast). I love this performance the first time around, and it’s just as good tonight. At the end, the six judges (Nigel, Mary, Tyce, Mia, Debbie and Adam Shankman) bust out! I’m expecting some dancing, but they just sort of prance to the front of the stage and get a massive ovation. Okaaaay…I guess.
It’s finally time for the final results. It’s down to Brandon and Jeanine, who are both incredible, but I can’t help but feel Brandon deserves this win. Cat tells us that the person crowned “America’s Favorite Dancer” is….Jeanine!
I’m surprised, yes, but I do think Jeanine is incredible. She’s weeping, thanking people and is clearly touched. There you have it! Jeanine is crowned America’s Favorite Dancer! Her title won’t last long though, as the next season of So You Think You Can Dance starts next month!
