Wes Hayden, currently the most hated man in reality TV history, is trying to clean up his reputation. The country-western singer, the Bachelorette’s “bad boy”, was finally kicked to the curb on Monday’s episode. His departing limo scene will go down as one of the most shocking exits in reality TV history. (For details on his departure, click here for a recap of Monday’s show).

However, in a recent interview with the “Bobby Bones” radio show in Austin, Texas, Wes claims, yet again, that he does not have a girlfriend, and much of what we saw on Monday night’s episode was some serious, sneaky (aka genius) ABC editing.

He claims that many things he said were completely edited and that the contract he signed was “very, very thick”. He goes on to say, “They said 'Hey, we can use your likeness as we see fit, that helps the needs of the show, okay.' And there's, like clauses, mental distress, and using you in ways that are untrue to your character, and this and that. Basically when you sign up for a show like this, you pretty much relinquish every right that you have. And I can understand them taking me and basing their ratings around me, because they did it for eight shows, and they never let up from the day I stepped out of the limo.”

So what’s the story with the girlfriend? When asked, point-blank, during the radio interview, “Did you have a girlfriend while the show was going on?” Wes replies, "That is a bold-faced lie, I did not have a girlfriend.”

I know what you’re thinking…in the limo, Wes says the words, “First guy ever on the Bachelorette to make it to the top four with a girlfriend.” How does he explain that? He says, "They don’t play what I say after that. I said, 'I'm the only guy in Bachelorette history that made it to the final four with a girlfriend', but then I said 'Get real dude, if I had a girlfriend, I'd be home with her right now and I wouldn't be putting up with this.' They said stuff like that all the way through. They can take whatever they want and just play what they want.” He later continues, “I do have a career. I've been a musician for 14 years and I would never go on national TV and sink myself knowingly.”

Okay, then how does he explain the comment, “My acting days are over”? Wes claims that he meant, literally, he’s done with TV because he was so frustrated with the situation. He says, “I was in the limo and I was just tired of the whole thing. There were two to three different times on that show where I was ready to go home. Trust me; it's not what you think. If anybody wants to go on any kind of reality show, they really need to consider what could happen to them, and think about it long and hard…and if you do go on, don't say a whole lot, because they can pretty much do what they want. If I went on there and I said, 'I don't hit women,' they could take the “don't” out and say, 'I hit women.’ Look, there had to be drama. There had to be ratings. They picked me for it. And if not, the show would have been boring. It would have been 25 different guys saying, ‘I’m in love with you.’”

Wes also claims his date with Jillian in Barcelona was nowhere near as awful as it looked. They weren’t fighting the whole time, and Jillian wasn’t grilling him relentlessly. They actually laughed a lot and he claims that much of this dinner “may” have been crafted by the producers. He says, “I'm just saying hypothetically… I can't say if this really happened, but just say it did happen. Just say I had a meeting with the head producer that day about how our date was going to go and what I was supposed to talk about. Totally hypothetical. 'This is supposed to happen'…So that’s what I talked about during the date.”

When they were finishing the date, Wes says, “I remember telling Jillian, I was like 'We're buds, right?' and she goes, 'Oh yeah. We're more than that, Wes.' And I was saying 'Okay, because that's the most important thing to me is our friendship, and that we're honest with each other.' I told her I didn't have a girlfriend. The actual conversation was based around ‘was I here for my career or not.’"

When asked about the comment he makes while standing with the other guys before the rose ceremony (“If it’s me, know that I’ll be back home having lots of sex”), he says, “That was three guys up there, and unfortunately they don’t show any of the other guys doing anything bad, but trust me, we are all guys and we all sit around and BS each other. That didn’t just come out of nowhere. Kiptyn had actually said something before that; I was just saying it to be a joke, to be quite honest with you. I’m sorry for saying it.”

Will he have a chance to redeem himself in person at the “Men Tell All” reunion? The special is set to air on Monday, July 20th and the producers are obviously pushing for Wes to appear on the show, but Wes isn’t so sure he wants to be a part of it. He says, "They want me on the reunion show but I am scared to death to go on there and open my mouth and I told them that. I said 'Look, if I trusted y'all I would go on the show.' But there's no telling what they're going to make me out to sound like.”

Although it definitely sounds like there is a good amount of editing going on, doesn’t it seem a little suspicious that he has the perfect answer for every accusation? Like Jake says, he’s smooth and quick on his feet. What do you think? Is Wes completely misunderstood? Is he anything close to the weasel he’s been portrayed as? What’s the truth? Who is the real Wes? Do we care anymore? Whatever you think about ABC for their editing tactics, the end result is some damn entertaining TV and I'll keep watching. Will you?
