As a dog trainer, one of the questions I'm asked frequently by new clients  is, '"Why is it important to teach my dog obedience commands?"

  1. A well-behaved dog goes places with its owner. Isn't it more fun to show off your dog's good manners than to leave him or her at home?
  2. Positive obedience training opens up communication with your canine best friend, strengthening your emotional bond. It's enjoyable and stimulating for both of you.
  3. In an emergency, training could save your dog's life.
  4. Imagine earning a certificate from the American Kennel Club, stating that your dog is a Canine Good Citizen! By mastering a few simple commands, any dog/owner team can take this test. MY dogs' certificates are displayed proudly in my home.
  5. A foundation of training is the starting point for rewarding activities: agility, tracking, obedience competition, and even therapy work, to name a few.
