Michael Jackson autobiographies and biographies, and other tidbits.

Published in 1988 by Doubleday, MOONWALK was Michael Jackson’s first (and long-awaited) heavily illustrated and brief biography. It’s the infamous book in which he claimed that his father, Joseph Jackson, had hit him as a child. It’s a book from the author that gives you insight into the way Michael Jackson viewed himself and his world. Then, in 1992, Doubleday published a second book of Jackson's writings, DANCING THE DREAM: POEMS AND REFLECTIONS. This book contains essays and poems—Jackson’s observations on life, humanity, God, the world and children. I n my opinion, it’s this book that everyone should buy. While there’s bound to be a slew of books written about Michael Jackson, his music, his lyrics, his words are the true reflection of the child man. He is a remarkably talented individual who never seemed to grow up. Many thought him odd and considered his childishness a failing. Others viewed him with awe, wonder, and not a little envy. In truth, how many of us wouldn’t love to hold onto the childlike wonder with which he viewed the world. His legacy—both good and bad—will live on. The tabloids will write about the pain and trauma of his children. Elizabeth Taylor will wax eloquently on his virtues. And the world will moonwalk.

Carol Berg just heard that BREATH AND BONE from her "Flesh and Spirit" series is a finalist for the 2009 Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Adult Literature. This is given by a literary society that is dedicated to scholarship and literature in the tradition of Tolkien, CS Lewis, and the Inklings. As this year's finalists include Ursula Le Guin, Patricia McKillip, and Gene Wolfe, she is a local writer in a very large pond. In her own words, she says “it is very cool to be perched atop a lilypad!” Kirkus Reviews said, “...the narrative crackles with intensity. Altogether superior."
