Welcome to Romance Author Anne Marsh, and her October release, The Hunt.
The Hunt is my debut novel (right now, my “back list” consists of a handful of academic articles—great stuff, I hope, if you’re into Alexander Pushkin or Nadezhda Durova, but not too sexy or marketable!) and it releases Sept. 29, 2009 from Dorchester.
Maddie: How did the inspiration for this work come to you?
Completely out of the blue. One of the great things about the romance community is how much that community gets behind newbie and would-be writers. Many of the local Romance Writers of America (RWA) chapters sponsor annual contests where, for a small entry fee, you get loads of feedback on your entry and—if you final—you get a chance to be read by a NYC editor. I had decided to enter the Orange County RWA’s 2007 Orange Rose contest—but I didn’t have an entry. Oops. So I just sat down and started making things up and HUNT was born. HUNT went on to tie for second in that contest and Alicia Condon, who one of their judges, liked it enough to request the full. Three months later and I had a contract with Dorchester!
Maddie: Did you have a blurb or excerpt to share?
My editor, Alicia Condon, wrote some fabulous back cover copy for the book. It really grabs readers’ attention and gives them a taste of the book’s sexiness.
No matter how they try to flee, the virgins who enter the twisting tunnels of the Guardians are destined to be caught. Actually, most don’t try too hard. The stories of warriors who can take on Cat form, of lovers who can make a woman scream with pleasure, are just too enticing.
But Miu is no virgin, and she’s joined the Hunt with her own agenda. After she steals the moonstone necklace she’s been sent for, she has no intention of becoming some Cat’s tasty morsel. Too late she discovers these kitties have some deliciously kinky habits, and the dark hunter on her trail isn’t about to let impudent thievery go without punishment of the most exquisite kind.
If that whets your interest, I have an excerpt available on my website: http://www.huntersmate.com
Maddie: Do you have another project in the works?
Of course! Once you start writing, everyone—agents, editors, other authors, writing books, your mom…-- are quick to point out that you need to write a second book. And a third. And then the fourth… so, yes, I’m working on two other projects at the moment. The first is the second book in the Hunter’s Mate series: Hebon and Aura’s story. The other is a novel about some sexy fallen angels who need to find their bloodmates before they can regain their place in the Heavens.
The Hunt is now available at Amazon.
Bio
A professional technical writer, Anne discovered that getting laid off was actually A Very Good Thing. While looking for her next writing gig, she picked up her pen (well, okay, she used her writing as an excuse to buy a new Apple laptop) and started writing. She soon discovered that writing was uncomfortably similar to sit-ups: add a few more crunches each day, wake up sore, but, by God, you will fit into that bikini. Or finish the book (she’s still working on the bikini). Now she cranks out software manuals during the daylight hours– and writes about alpha shapeshifters the rest of the time.
