Most homeschooling families rely heavily on field trips to enhance education. But homeschooling families are not the only ones who can benefit from fun educational outing. Below are three suggestions for adding some real-life learning experiences into your child's day.

Feeding Time at the Bronx Zoo
Feeding time for the seals at NY's Bronx Zoo

The Bronx Zoo: In addition to numerous animal exhibits, the zoo allows visitors to get a first-hand look at the training that many of the animals receive  Be sure to check out The Aardvarks, The Asian Elephants, Boo at the Zoo, and The Penguin Feeding.

Checking out the sharks at NY Aquarium
Checking out the sharks at NY Aquarium

The New York Aquarium: Sharks are the highlight of this aquarium. Children will be surprised to learn that sharks have a connection to bloodhounds, are sometimes mistaken for airplanes, and that all of them are not threats to humans. While there check out the Sea Cliffs, the Alien Stingers, and of course the Halloween special, The Haunted Sea-Fari Perils of the Sea. And skip the Planet Earth 4D Experience.  Instead head over to Explore the Shore instead.

Shawdow watching at the Yonkers Riverfront
Shadow watching at the Yonkers Riverfront

Walk along the Yonkers Riverfront for a great look at the environmental changes of the Hudson River. Discuss the rotation of the Earth and the awesome shadows that form when the light is just right. Watch boats, ferries and birds. Then, stop by  Beczak Environmental Education Center for hands-on programs for visitors from Pre-K to adults.
