Monster puppets add actions to books

Fears are a normal part of childhood as children learn to live in a great, big world.  Children's books are an invaluable resource to help children face those pesky monsters that show up under the bed and in dark corners.  With book in hand, your child can practice being brave and strong.  Books and pretend play are age-appropriate ways to conquer those seemingly irrational monsters of childhood.

Here are some favorite children's books that will help your child feel strong and brave - and put those monsters in a safe place.

  1. Everything I know about Monsters: A Collection of Made-Up Facts, Educated Guesses, and Silly Pictures about Creatures of Creepiness by Tom Lichtenheld
  2. Go Away Big Green Monster by Ed Emberley
  3. Leonardo, The Terrible Monster by Mo Willems
  4. A Little Book of Monsters by Llyn Hunter and Troy Wicker
  5. My Monster Mama Loves Me So by Laura Leuck
  6. No More Monsters for Me by Peggy Parish
  7. The Monster Who ate Darkness by Joyce Dunbar
  8. There are Monsters Everywhere by Mercer Mayer
  9. There's a Nightmare in My Closet by Mercer Mayer
  10. Tyrannosaurus Reg by Dan Crisp
  11. Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak

Just like the ending of Where The Wild Things Are, you can't keep your child away from monsters, but you can be sure that dinner is waiting...and it's "still hot".  In the end, your child can count on being safe, fed and home.
