At the most simplest form, interval training is merely running at two different speeds. Instead of pushing yourself when you run, decide to run a little faster; just pick up the pace. When this becomes difficult slow down and after a brief rest period pick up the pace again.
The interval runner always finds that the first several interval-rest periods become simultaneously easier and faster. What runner does not want to run faster with an easier effort?
Running becomes fun this way and is similar to dancing. This is a natural way to run as the human body is geared in every way for spontaneity. Like a group of soldiers marching and then quickening to double time, interval running becomes a rhythmic cadence rather than a boring (sluggish) pace.
If you have never tried interval running, you will be awestruck by the seemingly limitless potential of this type of running training.
