BallHype: hype it up!

in Seattle.  (Zalubowski/AP)

There was a bit of teetering at the top this week, but with no challengers within striking distance, the Dynamo retained their top spot. The biggest movement came from the Pacific Northwest, where Seattle's 3-goal win over Colorado catapulted the Sounders into the top three.

1)  Houston Dynamo - The red-hot Dynamo have finally cooled off, taking just one point from their last two matches.  With a compressed and road-heavy schedule ahead, the Dynamo finally look likely to slide from their top spot.

2)  Chivas USA - Out of league play until July 11th, Chivas has not won a match since June 6th (including SuperLiga and Open Cup play).  Luckily, Chivas amassed 27 points up to that point.

3)  Seattle Sounders FC - Out of options at the top of the rankings, Seattle's 3-nil win pushes the Sounders into an undeserved top three spot.

4)  Colorado Rapids - Looks like I jumped on the Rapids bandwagon a bit early.  Still, the club holds a home-heavy schedule though August.  So I'll hold up on the back backpedal just yet.

5)  Chicago Fire -In their break from league play the Fire backed into the SuperLiga semi-finals and fell out of the U.S. Open Cup, losing to ULS-2 side Wilmington Hammerheads.  The club needs a win in their 4th of July matchup in Colorado to prove they're not sleep-walking through another mid-summer slump.

6)  Columbus Crew - A win against MLS punching bag New York puts the Crew back on track and just one win from the top of the East.

7)  D.C. United - The 3-nil loss to Colorado was a body blow, but with a battle for the top of the East ahead D.C. has an opportunity to put the loss behind them.

8)  Kansas City Wizards - A poor performance in SuperLiga and the loss of Arnaud and Conrad to the Gold Cup has set up a tough July from the Wizards.

9)  Real Salt Lake - The 3-nil win against Toronto could signal a return to early season form, but the Royals have dug themselves a deep hole.

10) New England Revolution - With four games in hand on the top of the East, you can't count out the Revs just yet, but Twellman's extended absence makes the task that much harder.

11) Toronto FC -  Playing against the Red Bulls twice in a month artificially inflates TFCs point total.  A tougher July should find them on the playoff bubble.

12) LA Galaxy - Beating Houston at home pops the Galaxy to the top of what should be the relegation zone.

13) FC Dallas - Just one loss in a month has to be seen as an improvement.

14) San Jose Earthquakes - The Quakes didn't lose this week, but that's because they didn't play.

15) New York Red Bulls - Two goals for the month of June . . . in six games.
