In continued and seemingly unending anticipation for the release of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, we are continuing to review some of Stephenie Meyer's New Moon's best quotes as selected by you, the reader.

Yesterday, we discussed the beginning of the book, when Bella and Edward's love is reintroduced to us after a summer of (for lack of a better word) love. Before that, we talked about a scene when Edward and Bella are reunited after the separation.

Today, we take a different path - the middle ground.

This quote, submitted by Jaxon, is very interesting as well:

Yes. You're right, dog. The Volturi are the very essence of our kind - they're the reason your hair stands on end when you smell me. They are the substance of your nightmares, the dread behind your instincts. I'm not unaware of that.

The quote is from Alice to Jacob in Chapter 18, from pages 421-422 of the text.

This quote introduces us, very importantly, to the nature of the Volturi right before Bella and Alice are to set off in efforts to save Edward from himself - and them. Alice is explaining to Jacob that she understands his trepidation with the idea of Bella running off to Italy and immersing herself in the heart of vampires. Alice's admission that there are those which Jacob's kind (the wolves of La Push) rightfully fear is important because it draws a distinct and cognizant line of separation between the Cullen coven and the misconceptions that the wolfpack has with vampires. Though it will not prove useful (or influential) 'til much later, the sentiment lingers - Jacob will understand, at least, that the Cullens are (or are at least trying to be) different.

Other excellent submissions are recounted below. In them, we see everything from Edward's words in leaving Bella to the beginning, when Bella fears that her human tendency to age will lessen her in the mind of Edward (which he promptly refutes).

Now, let's see if we can find some communications between Bella and Jacob in New Moon that you fancied most.

[Be sure to leave your suggestions for the next discussion, as a quote will be drawn from the list of suggestions contained in the comments below (and the format will continue in this way until November). Be sure to leave the chapter/page information on the quote that you submit, and your name in the box so that you can be credited for your submission!]
