Stephenie Meyer, best-selling author of the Twilight series (which, in 2008, became a blockbuster film starring Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner, among others), attended a charity event called Save the Book Babe, auctioning off some of her most precious Twilight goodies (see here), and making quite a killing.

Women's Business Examiner Laura Browne attended the event and was so kind as to provide us her account of the event.

Says Laura,

I attended the Project Book Babe charity event in Tempe, AZ. The event started with the news that one of the authors, Frank Beddor, would not be there. Then Shannon Hale, the author that was running the event announced that they had other bad news. She slowly said that Stephenie Meyer would not attend… in her bunny suit. She went on to say that there had been a mix-up at the dry cleaners so she couldn’t wear it. For a moment, the audience expected the worst, but we laughed in relief when we got the joke. We quickly realized we were in for an unusual afternoon when one of the male authors, Dean Lorey, put on Stephenie Meyer’s prom dress to show it off and several authors including Stephenie danced across the stage.

Before the program even started, there were some terrific artists drawing pictures - obviously Twilight characters were the most popular. There were also some wonderful musicians that started the afternoon: Adam Kump and the Adam Watts Band. Of course the real draw was the author panel and it was way too short. I could have listened to them for hours. All the authors were funny and personable. My favorite part was when the panel members were asked when they really felt like they were authors. Stephenie Meyer admitted that she still doesn't feel like an author. J. S. Lewis interrupted her and asked the audience if we thought she was an author. We applauded and cheered our agreement.

Another high point was the raffle. One of the best parts was that raffle winners could have their picture taken with Stephenie!

The auction followed and one of the hotly bid items was lunch with Stephenie Meyer. Two bidders reached $6,500 and after a quick check with Stephenie, J. S. Lewis told both bidders that they had won. The final item was the red satin dress that Stephenie wore to the Eclipse Prom event. There was spirited bidding for that one and one happy fan finally won it for $5,500 . . .

Update: My friends over at Twifans.com have the skinny on the winner of Stephenie Meyer's Eclipse prom dress with a first-hand account from Alison, the winner. For the full account, please see here!
