Think a trip to Hawaii from the east coast is too expensive during these tight times?  Think again.  If you book now, you can get roundtrip flights from Dulles Airport and 6 nights in Kauai for just $789 per person.  This offer, which includes a stay at the four-star, oceanside Aston Kauai Beach Resort, is available for departures in May through August.

Want to visit an island closer to home?  You can fly to Bermuda and spend 3 nights at the luxurious Fairmont Southampton Premier Resort for just $459 per person.  It's great news for SCUBA enthusiasts, since Bermuda is well known for its great diving locations.  This deal is available for departures between June and August.

I found these special packages and many others at VIPTravelAlerts.com -- the website of VIP Travel Agency.  You can get your own email updates from them by signing up on their site -- just select the departure airport(s) near you.

Also, don't forget to routinely check out the latest deals being offered by individual airlines -- there are many to be found this summer.  For example, American Airlines is offering fares as low as $38 each way from DC to destinations across the US.  (You need to book 14 days in advance to get these special prices.)  And they're offering flights to European cities this summer for as little as $290 roundtrip.

So don't throw in the beach towel on summer travel just because you've tightened your budget -- pack it up along with your swimsuit and sunscreen.  Start searching online -- and plan the trip you want for a fraction of the usual price.
