Summers in California’s gay-friendly desert city of Palm Springs are hot... fry-a-homo-on-the-sidewalk sort of hot. But with these hot temperatures also come some cool savings opportunities.

For the second year, the Desert Gay Tourism Guild (DGTG) has worked with area hotels, restaurants, bars, retailers and entertainment venues to create a vibrant and varied line-up of special offers and events to help increase summer tourism.

Billed as Summer Splash 2009, the promotions officially run from June though August; however, some do not begin until July and others will extend into September.

Ricardo Gomez, co-owner of Tortuga del Sol and president of DGTG, believes summer is one of the best times to visit Palm Springs.

"The heat helps you slow down your pace so you can stop and smell the roses, or in our case the cactus," says Gomez.

And of course, let’s not forget it is a dry heat.
