The Windy City...the City of Big Shoulders...the Second City ...the City That Works...whatever you call it, Chicago is a city with a scenic lakeside location and world-class cultural offerings that make it a top destination.
Upward of 50 million people visit Chicago annually. And according to research by Community Marketing Inc., a market research firm specializing in gay tourism, the city moved from seventh to fifth place among it's annual list of most-visited US destinations by LGBT travelers.
Here are five picks for places to stay:
W - Lakeshore
Offering spectacular views of the Lake Michigan, the W Lakeshore hotel is one of Chicago's premier properties. It offers 520 guestrooms with a multitude of standard amenities that include 32" flatscreen televisions, 24-hour in-room dining, wireless high speed Internet Access and luxury bedding. The hotel's Bliss spa and Whiskey Sky bar are also big draws.
Hotel Allegro
Located in the heart of Chicago's main theater district, Hotel Allegro, with its 483 guestrooms, provides visitors easy access to many of the city's most popular attractions. A Kimpton Hotel, it recently underwent a $40 million makeover and is one of the chain's luxury properties. Not only is it a gay-friendly property, Hotel Allegro is eco-friendly and one of Chicago's leading green hotels.
Hotel Indigo - Downtown
One of Chicago’s most unique boutique properties, Hotel Indigo pampers its guests in plush comfort, impeccable hospitality and creative decor. Nestled on a tree-lined street in the Chicago Gold Coast - one of Chicago's oldest and most historic neighborhoods - Hotel Indigo is conveniently just blocks from Michigan Avenue, the city's famed shopping district.
The Majestic Hotel
The Majestic Hotel is an older hotel that is still a modern day player. It is located north of downtown in the Lakeview/Addison neighborhoods, two of Chicago's heavily LGBT-populated areas. The hotel is more European in its architecture and decor, with slightly smaller rooms - but also slightly smaller prices, which makes it an even better choice for travelers on a budget.
The Amalfi Hotel
While a chic and larger 215-room boutique property, guests at the Amalfi will feel as if they are staying at bed and breakfast. The staff is extremely welcoming and there is complimentary continental breakfast each morning and evening Italian-themed hors d'ouevers each evening. A privately owned property, it competes very well against the larger chain hotels.
