Fresh off the news of State Department alerts Burro - courtesy Tijuanaonline.organd counter marketing by those with an interest in promoting tourism to Mexico comes word of a new campaign and web site launched on Monday by the Tijuana Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Burro's, I mean, Bureau's ``120 Things To Do in Tijuana'' campaign befits the city's 120th anniversary.

You can view the complete Web site at www.120ThingsToDoInTijuana.org. (Presumably the list of 120 things does not include getting kidnapped and held for ransom or being shot at by narcoterroristas.)

Ah, it's a PDF document at: www.120thingstodointijuana.org/media/pdf/120things.pdf -- (Can someone please explain when such cumbersome docs were allowed to supplant good 'ol HTML?)

Any rate, among the suggestions:

  • Take a picture with the famous Tijuana zebra donkey on Avenida Revolucion
  • Bet on a live greyhound race at the Caliente Casinos and Race Track
  • Order a cactus salad with cilantro dressing at La Diferencia, a gourmet Mexican restaurant
  • Play a round of golf at Real Del Mar beachfront resort and country club.

The list goes on of course, as does the debate over whether it's actually a good a idea to venture south of the border these days.

One word of advice if you do go...leave the rent money cash at home... :)
