Ah, Paris in the fall, croissants and coffee at street-side cafes, languid smokes while surveying the great works of art, sampling the . . . Windows 7 operating system?
It's true, according to BusinessWeek's Leona Liu, the magazine's Paris correspondent.
For the scheduled Oct. 22 global launch of Windows 7, the Windows Cafe will be in operation (part of the effort to generate buzz for the badly needed OS update from the Microsofties.
It's going to be set up near the Chatelet-Le Halles commuter rail station in the spirit of "pop up stores" that come and go with little or no notice from retailers attempting to market new products.
They'll be selling espresso and snacks and those fortunate enough to be in Paris on this particular day will be able to test-drive the new OS and other computer-drive goods such as the Xbox.
A Paris-based publicist says it's just a temporary marketing ploy. No need for Parisians to get up in arms.
