Where would those who enjoy the sights and sounds of Southern California be without the legion of docents and volunteers throughout this great state?

We'd be a lot less informed, that's for certain.

Today, we pay tribute to longtime dedicated naturalist Hugh Ryono of Fullerton.

Always camera ready, he tirelessly documents the goings on in and around the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.

The devoted rescuer and observer of seals, sea lions and all things marine, has chronicled such happenings as sleeping whales and rarely seen sea turtles in Seal Beach.

Here's a look at an aquarium seal who doesn't seem to mind not being able to see.
