Lear 60, one of Schubach's "midsize" jets.

Nothing says a comfortable flight like flying "first class," and for the fortunate few, the ultimate alternative is your own private charter. In San Diego County, the gold standard for such is Schubach Aviation.

Based at Palomar Airport in Carlsbad, the charter company operates a flock of splendid jets and turboprops of the "executive" type.

The company also operates out of Lindbergh Field in San Diego, so potential visitors are not confined to flying in and out of the North County.

Oooh! If you're ultra wealthy and environmentally correct, you can also feel good about your jet-setting ways.

That's because the company also offers a "carbon-neutral" travel program, giving those concerned about such matters the option to fly in an aircraft that supports clean energy.

That means the company is involved in a program that "balances the impact of energy use by supporting an equivalent amount of wind energy production through the purchase of Green-e Certified® Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)."

In plain English, the company buys equivalents of such RECs for every gallon burned by the plane in question.

You can check out their prices by asking for a quote online, but make sure your pockets are loaded.
