We take a virtual tour today of Los Cabos, legendary edge of the Baja California Sur, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Gulf of California.

We've noted the positive and, uh, "other" aspects of touring in Mexico. But, there is this: Secure, gated communities in that neck of the woods can be great bargains relative to their over-priced cousins in the U.S.

The Las Villas de Mexico project is under development of a luxury division of Homex, Culiacan, Mexico.

The going rate on these luxury villas and condos, set in a master planned community there known as Club Campestre,  starts in the high $300s.

For that, private whole owners have the opportunity to stay in any of the company's other resorts scattered among such locales as Puerto Vallarta, Cancun and others.

Five star amenities include concierge service, spas, beach clubs, travel services, pet care services, and the Nicklaus designed-Club Campestre 18-hole championship golf course.

You may receive an in-person tour of the project than by visiting Los Cabos as part of a "mini vacation."

The sales pitch includes fine dining and luxury accommodations that include:

• Airport pickup and drop off
• Transportation
• Welcome margarita or other beverage
• Lunch at the Beach Club or hotel
• Gourmet dinner
• Golf
• Yacht cruise

The development is touted as real property ownership. But when it comes to "buying" in Mexico, the advice here is read the fine print carefully. Your recourse should things slide sideways isn't quite like it is in the U.S., so, buyer especially beware. Just ask the folks who threw in with Donald Trump's project.
