Greetings fellow Netizens, thanks so much for touching base on this, the inaugural post of the San Diego-based Travel Examiner at Examiner.com.
The goal is to keep you abreast of current travel news and trends, help enjoy your experiences in San Diego and elsewhere, introduce you to new places and people and transport you to different places using photos and the occasional video.
Now, look, no use sugar-coating things. The economy is, uh, weak right now. Plus, the stock market canoodlings in '08 and early '09 have given many investors a severe case of dyspepsia. The last thing many folks may want to think about is their leisure time. For many, there's true fear there won't be a job to return to.
But here in America's Finest City, they're all about looking on the bright side. So, stick around, take in some of the traveler photos from around the site.
And if you're thinking about dropping a dime (or two) in San Diego, now is the time. as great deals abound.
Starting off with three, as of this writing:
- The five-star Grand Del Mar, a first-cabin experience if ever there was one. At Tripadvisor.com, most site visitors rave about the accomodations: "The experience was fantastic for everyone as well as our clients. We couldn't have asked for more! The service was truly exceptional all around," one online reviewer notes. The golf course is also exceptional -- scenic vistas, challenging layout, environmentally sensitive.
- Four-star Hilton San Diego Bayfront If the waterfront is more to your liking, the new Hilton is centrally located. Expedia.com notes it's located just a few miles from Balboa Park, within 13 miles of Coronado Island and La Jolla, CA. If you enjoy your downtown nightlife, it's the place, site posters note. After all, PetCo Park and the Gaslamp District are nearby.
- La Costa Resort and Spa The opening triple play is complete by heading north to the former site of golf's Match Play Championship and before that, many other PGA Tournament of Champions events. Could it be there are suites available as of this writing for 50 percent off?
As O.C. Register travel editor Gary A. Warner noted in a recent interview:
"For the leisure traveler who feels like they have some money to spend, it's a great time to travel right now."
Great time, indeed.
