When Vinny Del Negro was introduced as the Bulls head coach last summer, it came as a surprise to almost everyone.
Hiring someone who had no coaching experience at any level to oversee a team that seemed to have lost all respect for authority was seen as as a move the organization would regret.
Incidents with players, not leaving Derrick Rose in the game at crucial moments and the team being booed at home was enough for most fans, bloggers and beat writers to call for Del Negro's job. You add that to the man who hired you and the guy who owns the team publicly questioning your coaching and that seat only gets hotter.
Of course, he didn't start with a healthy roster, he was learning on the fly, dealing with a player who publicly complained of playing time and had to work to gain the respect of the veterans on the team.
With a mid season trade and a healthy roster, sans Luol Deng, the Bulls made the playoffs and took the Boston Celtics to a thrilling seven game series, that some call one of the best playoff series of all times. With that, the team created a buzz throughout the city that was loud enough to quiet most of the critics of Del Negro.
Expectations for this team are high.
Last season was a test for each individual player as well as coach Del Negro, now, they have to show how far they've come individually. Collectively.
