If you haven’t heard of the much-touted contest to win the “Best Job in the World”, you might be one of the very few who has not.
Over 35,000 people from all over the world applied for the dream job -- a AU$150,000 (US$111,000) contract to serve as the caretaker of a tropical island in Australia. The winner will live in an oceanfront villa with sweeping views of the surrounding islands and a private pool, and have the chance to swim and explore the Great Barrier Reef for six months while writing a blog to promote the area.
The Queensland, Australia Tourism Bureau produced the AU$1.7 million tourism campaign to promote northeastern Queensland. The campaign has generated more than AU$100 million worth of publicity already.
A British charity worker, Ben Southall, 34, won the much-coveted job. In his application video, Southall featured photographs of himself riding an ostrich, trekking through Africa and kissing a giraffe, and expressed a love for adventure.
The job begins July 1.
Let's hope other countries have similar promotions...I'll be the first to apply!
