How many times will we see Eric Gordon,
right, dunk like this in 2009-2010?

On Tuesday at Clipsnation.com, Steve Perrin expounded upon his views of Eric Gordon's potential for the upcoming season in an entry. Here's an excerpt. (http://www.clipsnation.com/2009/9/8/1021821/eric-gordon-lest-we-forget#storyjump)

Citizen ASoMS posted a FanShot from HoopsWorld in which Luke Byrnes profiled potential 'Break Out' players in the Western Conference next season.  Eric Gordon topped his list, which was gratifying considering that so many NBA pundits seem to inexplicably rank him consistently below some of his classmates from teh 2008 draft like O.J. Mayo and Russell Westbrook.

Byrnes argues that an improved and hopefully healthy Clippers team will put more weapons on the floor, meaning that defenses will not be able to focus as much attention on EJ.  That may be true, but it also likely implies that there will be fewer shots for him than there were January through April, when he averaged 19.9 points per game.

As for my take on the brief analysis of Gordon here, I'm with Perrin when it comes to confusion over why Gordon is apparently overlooked by a fair amount of NBA analysts, pundits, et al. Since it can't really be based upon a poor performance or two during tryouts for Team USA, or his overall performance during college at Indiana and in the pros with the Clippers thus far, perhaps the lack of coverage/respect being allotted to Gordon is due to the fact that he plays for perhaps the most ridiculed and downtrodden franchise in the history of the NBA. And thus, it's assumed anyone who performs up to the standards of a star isn't worthy of recognition, because the rest of the Clipper team is awful.

I also believe Gordon may get more open looks than he had in 2008-2009, but due to the unselfishness he displayed throughout most of the season (as Perrin later alluded to in the entry), it's difficult to say if that will lead to more points for the young shooting guard.

Regardless of how the season plays out for Gordon, we can all hope he continues to improve along with his team as they attempt to recover from another abysmal season.
