$10 million can build what may be the fastest racing yacht ever. Built in our own backyard right here in Anacortes the new BMW Oracle Racing 90 Trimaran can do up to 40 knots in only 20 knots of wind.
This trimaran was just launched for sea trials in Anacortes and will be causing jaws to drop on the water for the next week. Imagine a
boat that is 100 feet from stern to stern and a mast that is 158 feet tall. The mainsail is 5000 square feet and the gennaker is 7000 square feet which adds up to quite a bit of sail area.
After the sea trials which end on Saturday it will be shipped by barge to San Diego. This yacht was built to compete in the 2010 America’s Cup but currently its eligible status is being determined by the courts. Larry Ellison of Oracle and Ernesto Bertarelli, a biotech billionaire, are in a legal battle to determine if this boat will be racing in the next America’s Cup.

Right now we have a unique opportunity to check out this one of a kind boat in Anacortes and see it sailing through the Rosario Strait. She is being crewed by some of the top sailors in the world who have impressive America's Cup credentials. If Ellison loses his lawsuit this boat may be the fastest boat never to round the starting mark in the top sailing race in the world.
