Being the Tolkien scholar that I am - which means I once read The Hobbit front to back - I'm offended, distressed, provoked, and genuinely miffed that they'd go and add Aragorn to the new Hobbit movie...
Nah, not really. Sounds fine to me. A visit to Strider in his rangerin' days might be a nice little sojourn for the admittedly "wispy" Tolkien story. At the very least it'll give us Middle Earth rookies someone we know while we're trying to catalog all these new dwarves with all their similar sounding names...
Here's what Viggo Mortensen said about the possibility of his character returning in the new Hobbit films:
"I think they're just worried about shooting the first part of that movie which doesn't involve my character. My character is around at times--in the middle, but it would only be if they made a second movie or connecting movie that connected 'The Hobbit' to 'The Lord of the Rings' that I might appear, which would be great."
Which may mean nothing. Jackson and del Toro have abandoned the Hobbit-to-LOTR linking film and are now making The Hobbit a two film epic. Still.... Don't be surprised if the Vigg' makes an appearance somewhere past Riverdale. If the man can battle climate change in the upcoming adaptation of The Road - surely he can fight Smaug in The Hobbit...
