Murphy’s Lie starts out with Drama and Jamie-Lynn acting out the passionate make-out scene for Five Towns. E arrives on set and tells the guys that he tried covering up the fact that he called Ashley “Sloan.” At the Gold house, Mrs. Ari finally forgives Ari for lying to her, finally getting him out of “the doghouse.”
Before meeting with Murray to receive a job offer (apparently he changed his mind), E visits Ashley to apologize for calling her Sloan. She forgives him and they arrange for some mid-day fun before E’s meeting. E later receives a voicemail from Sloan while in the shower. Ashley listens to it and finds out that E lied to her and that Sloan was at the golf tournament with him. Upset by this, she leaves abruptly without saying anything.
Back on set of Five Towns, Drama and Jamie-Lynn do a few more takes. Fictional NBC studio executive Dan Coakley visits the set and arranges a professional lunch meeting with Jamie-Lynn, but Drama suspects he has ulterior motives. At MGA, Marlo Klein fanatically storms the office looking for the woman who had an affair with Andrew. Ari attempts to pacify her, but he is ultimately unsuccessful, as it seems she has gone completely off the deep end.
Meanwhile, Turtle is about to start his first day of school. He arrives at UCLA in his new Ferrari with Vince and is recognized for being Jamie-Lynn’s boyfriend. Vince receives a call from Drama, expressing his concern over Coakley’s intentions with Jamie-Lynn, as Drama is spying on their lunch meeting. Vince meets a UCLA coed and decides to “hang” with her before she goes to class.
Back at MGA, Ari initially fires Andrew and Lizzie, but later changes his mind and keeps them on board after seeing that their affair has finally come to an end. E arrives at Murray Berenson’s office and finds himself sitting in the waiting area alongside Steve Nash, a client with Murray’s company. After discussing the job with Murray, E ends up accepting his job offer.
Drama calls Vince again, who is a bit tied up with the UCLA coed in her dorm room. He tells him that he lost site of Jamie-Lynn and Coakley. Turtle then calls Drama and tells him that he and Vince are heading back over to the Five Towns set. One of Drama’s castmates tells him that Coakley once had an affair with one of his past girlfriends. As a result, Drama is having trouble focusing on set for his take. He ends up storming off set to confront Coakley in the middle of a meeting. Coakley denies doing anything with Jamie-Lynn, but tells Drama that he plans to in the future. Drama grabs him by the throat and consequently, Coakley threatens Drama to have his character killed off the show.
At night, E goes to Ashley’s place to find out why she is upset with him. She asks him if he still has feelings for Sloan. He tells her that he does and she closes the door on him.
Personal Notes:
“Ew, it’s like you just kissed me,” Ari got “teab*gged” in college, “Ouch bro”- Steve Nash, apparently nobody has ever called E “smooth,”
I'm still hearing complaints that this season is lacking a direction for Vince. We know that he just came off success with Gatsby and he has a future project in Ferrari, but other than that, he (and many viewers) are seemingly bored with this season.
While many people agree that this season trumps the previous season, many express their concerns that the show has peaked and reached a point of stability. While I agree that Vince's character is not getting as much attention as he has had in previous seasons, I enjoy the focus on the other characters individual lives just as much as Vince's...but that's just me.
