India is the largest democracy in the world. The country is going through major elections these days. The results can be followed.
When it comes to election there are generally three camps.
The Calvinists think individuals have no choice in the matter. God will elect who He will elect. End of discussion.
The Arminians think individuals have free will and it's all up to choice.
Then there is the camp that flip flops and picks and chooses as they like - sometimes God decides and sometimes the individual decides.
The church is not a democracy. It is a theocracy. Elders are not elected, they are appointed based on qualification. For that matter, the majority is not always right, it is just what the majority thinks. More often than not the crowd follows the loudest and most popular idea...it's called the herd mentality.
All things considered, I prefer to live in a free society, though I am not always happy with the choices my neighbors, even though the majority thinks so, makes. I have been in cultures where individuals were told what they can and cannot believe. Socialist, Communist, Buddhist, Hindi and otherwise.
But, what really matters, is what do you and I as individuals think about God's involvement in our lives? What do we choose to do with what He has offered us?
