Not a few people have it in their minds that God is keeping score of our good deeds and bad. In the end those people hope their good outweighs the bad.
It doesn't work that way. We will/can never do enough good to get into heaven, to earn our place, to tilt the balance in our favor, to expect God to deliver because of who we are or what we did.
Getting into heaven (if that is your goal, and it's not mine) is totally dependent on God's mercy.
It is the same as us deciding on who we do and do not allow into our homes. God has the privilege to make that decision for His dwelling.
Still, folk want to keep score.
There is a cricket league happening in South Asia these days. It is kind of like a mini-MLB season for cricket. It lasts just over a month and there are only 59 games. To be sure, several hundred million (no exaggeration here) are watching the scores of those matches to see their outcome.
Thank goodness God does NOT keep score and that we can be totally dependent on His mercy for He is indeed merciful and loving and Father-like to all His children.
Oh...my goal, to live a life that is pleasing to the giver of life. To show appreciation to God for allowing me to live. That's it. Everything else is, well, everything else. Eternal life is a bonus, non-deserved and not expected. I am happy living now for my Lord.
Psalm 26:11-12 apply.
