With Halloween falling on Saturday night, and plenty of people planning to party on Friday night too, some local theaters are offering deals and party fun to scare up some extra live bodies in their seats. Others with shows haunted by a little Halloween horror are expecting capacity crowds.

Book-It invites Austen lovers to experience a little Halloween fun at Emma.

Book-It is offering two-for-one tickets for Jane Austen's Emma on Saturday night.A little Regency Zombie action may occur during the evening and audience members are welcome to dress as their favorite undead character. Bloody Mary cocktails will be available and Book-It promises tricks, treats, and a great Jane Austen story. To secure this deal, enter the code “scary” when buying tickets online or by phone 206-216-0833.

No plans for Zombies (as far as we know), but Intiman is also offering two-for-one ticket deals for 2 p.m. performance on October 31 of Abe Lincoln in Illinois. This Intiman two-for-one offer is only for box office or phone purchases and is not available online. The 5th also has a two-for-one going for both 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Oct. 31 performances of Joseph and the Techinicolor Dreamcoat, but that sale ends at midnight tonight (Oct. 28).

It's a bloody good time for all at Titus Andronicus.

Costume Fun at Titus

GreenStage's comedic rendering of Titus Andronicus (Shakespeare's own Saw with mutilations, murder, rapine, and cannibalism) is absolutely free, just like their summer park performances. However, this GreenStage play is also under cover, unlike those park performances, at 2115 5th Ave (behind the Cinerama and across the street from Top Pot Doughnuts).

So far, GreenStage reports that six people have walked out because of blood and violence, one person left during the show looking sick, one person passed out from the blood, and more than 20 are coming back for a second helping of meat pies. In short, this is a gorefest for the ghoulish and you are welcome to come in costume for any performance.  Each night, the Titus cast will pick a winner in the audience costume contest to receive a signed poster and a GreenStage baseball cap.

And for those who like their costumes to remain...umm...unsticky, don't sit in the front row. GreenStage has issued a warning that this is a "splash zone."  They also caution that they are expecting capacity crowds of horror seekers for their last three shows ('tis the season!) so reservations are a good idea.  Reservations are already full for Oct. 31 but there may be a waiting list for seats at the door.

Lovecraft Returns to Open Circle

If it's October, it must be Lovecraft at Open Circle. If you can't get into GreenStage, head over a couple of blocks to catch their latest trip into the gaping maw of the audient void.

This year, Dustin Engstrom and Ron Sandahl have adapted H.P. Lovecraft's only novella Madness Out of Time. For those who love their elder gods, Lovecraft is the bard of tentacled horrors. Climb the stairs at 2222 Second Avenue to discover a mystery guaranteed to drive young Charles Ward insane (insane, we say, insane, mwhhaaaaaa).

Madness Out of Time runs through Nov. 14. Thursday performances are pay-what-you-can. Friday and Saturday performances are $13 in advance from Brown Paper or $15 at the door. No one under 15 will be admitted. Open Circle has a bar in its lobby, open before and after each show, and at intermission. The Open Circle fiends promise a "Gala Party" on Halloween.
