Stephen King's Under the Dome signing tour, brought to my attention by fellow Examiner Blu Gilliand, will be commencing shortly with King's signing in New York and thence down the eastern seaboard. And, while it certainly ain't Birmingham, the B&N that will be hosting his Atlanta signing began taking, on their website, reservations at this e-mail address crm1907x@bn.com at midnight Eastern time last night.
And what is Under the Dome you ask? Only the biggest spec. fic. book ever. A quick synopsis:
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when -- or if -- it will go away.
Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens -- town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician's assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing -- even murder -- to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn't just short. It's running out.
The Atlanta signing itself will take place on Friday, November 13th and is smack in the middle of King's tour. While the books aren't free, the reservations certainly seem to be. Any and all interested in the Atlanta signing are advised to turn on turbo and e-mail the listed address with STEPHEN KING as the subject line if they are interested in securing a place in line. Click here for a map to the event, and remember that the other locations on the tour have probably sold out by now. And, honestly, any one desirous of Stephen King signing events ought to have joined the forums at stephenking.com long ago.
Hope to see you there.
