Upcoming community meetings about automobile traffic congestion charges

November 25, 10:16 AM
by Jamie Whitaker, Rincon Hill Examiner

You may have read about congestion charges in the San Francisco Chronicle yesterday.

This idea is especially relevant to neighbors in the Rincon Hill neighborhood since we live in beside the Bay Bridge, just north of the South of Market freeway entry ramps from the south, and among the SoMa roadways that do get congested at certain hours.

There are some community meetings hosted by the San Francisco County Transportation Authority about this topic that you may want to attend to learn more and to provide input.  I believe it will be especially important to include in any such plans the provision that Rincon Hill and other residents who live within the congestion zones be relieved of paying the tolls. Hopefully, most of us tend to walk, bike, or ride public transit anyway, but it seems especially unfair to impose a toll on us anytime we do opt to drive for groceries or other basics.

The following are the meeting dates (note an online option of Friday, December 5th)

AT A PUBLIC WORKSHOP
Tuesday, December 2, 5:30 – 7:00pm
San Francisco Main Library
100 Larkin Street at Grove

Monday, December 8, 5:30 – 7:00pm
San Francisco Ferry Building
Port Commission Hearing Room, 2nd floor

ON THE WEB
Friday, December 5, 12:00 – 1:00pm

The Authority will present online during lunch!
