Despite rolling thunder and lightning earlier in the morning this past Saturday, 17 neighbors from South Beach, Rincon Hill, and South Park got together with Merle Goldstone, Amy, and 3 other friends from San Francisco's Department of Public Works to clean up the site of a future neighborhood dog park on the northwest corner of Beale and Bryant Streets.
Neighbors from 301 Bryant, BayCrest Towers, BridgeView, Portside, South Park, Watermark, and the good owners of South Paw Bathhouse & Feed Co. Pet Supplies removed 2,000 pounds of green matter and 1,680 pounds of debris from the dirt lot that is in the process of being leased by Caltrans to the City and County of San Francisco.

The before and after photos to the right show the results of some of the neighbors' hard work on Saturday. Hopefully, the 17 neighbors and 5 DPW friends knocked out the worst of the weeds and debris at Bryant and Beale, but there are other public open spaces that need the attention of neighbors who want to give back to the community as stewards of the green spaces.
If you would like to join the Bryant Bay Bridge Corridor Adopt-A-Street volunteer group, please send Jamie Whitaker an email at RinconHill@gmail.com and mention that you'd like to join the "BBBC Group" e-mail list. You can also read more about the group and print an application form to send to the Department of Public Works.
Marty Coressel, who along with neighbor Josh Wolf took the initiative to start the process with Caltrans and the City and County of San Francisco to repurpose the fenced up lot on Bryant and Beale as a dog park, was very pleased with the participation level by neighbors on a rainy day and the wonderful results of our hard work. You can tentatively mark your calendar for the second Saturdays of each month to join the Bryant Bay Bridge Corridor Adopt-A-Street group for their next clean and green sweep project in the area between Brannan and Folsom and 2nd to the waterfront. It was a great chance to meet neighbors, exercise some muscles that don't often get used at office jobs, and see the results of your and your neighbors' efforts in just a couple of hours. Please do join us!
