The Sunday edition of The San Francisco Chronicle features a collection of blurbs of thoughts from former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown called Willie's World. Last week's article mentioned Baron Davis noting he lives (lived?) at 2nd and Howard Streets in the Rincon Hill neighborhood. Willie also noted that his own home is the St. Regis in the wonderful Yerba Buena neighborhood (and he counts former Vice President Al Gore and NFL legend John Madden as neighbors). Willie brought up our Rincon Hill neighborhood again in today's Willie's World entry.
He noted the weekly Friday night Rincon Hill neighborhood circuit of young professionals that starts with drinks at Hotel Vitale's outdoor patio on the Embarcadero, moves to Ozumo on Steuart for some of the best sushi and sake in town, a visit to Epic Roasthouse or Waterbar in Rincon Park, and wrapping things up at Town Hall on Fremont and Howard.
Willie left out Local Kitchen & Wine Merchant, Salt House, 111 Minna, Temple Nightclub, Yank Sing, Shanghai 1930, Mexico DF, Anchor & Hope, and Zebulon among other great evening spots in the Rincon Hill neighborhood ... but I'm sure he'll find some room in a future article to mention these other fabulous gathering spots. In the meanwhile, thanks for the reminder about the wonderful restaurants and nightclubs we already have in Rincon Hill, and we're all looking forward to adding many more.
Something that may be neat for the predominantly LGBT nightclubs located a little bit deeper west in SoMa to consider would be pooling resources to set up a Friday and Saturday night shuttle that somehow loops Folsom, Harrison, and Mission between the Embarcadero down to 11th Street (or wherever the last of the fabulous nightclubs sit in that direction). If nothing else, a shuttle looping around for a few hours on Friday and Saturday nights would advertise the existence of the clubs for visitors and residents alike who want to keep the fun time going into the morning hours in SoMa. Providing a safe means to get back to the waterfront for visitors and residents would be a great gesture (and keep drunks off the roads).
For folks who want to get a good workout and who enjoy rolling around on skates, you might want to check out David "Godfather of Skating" Miles's San Francisco Friday Night Skate that gathers in the median area in front of the Ferry Building every Friday for a skate that starts at 9 p.m. and goes for about 3 hours. It is a 10 mile party for those who'd like to start the weekend with a good, sweaty workout. The price is right - FREE. The Halloween Friday Night Skate this year promises to be especially fun.
