The San Francisco Planning Department is hosting a meeting on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at the San Francisco State University Downtown Campus (835 Market Street, Room 626/627) to receive oral comments regarding the scope of the upcoming Environment Impact Report (EIR) for the Transit Center District Plan.  The most significant change introduced by the Plan is a 1000' height for the proposed Transit Tower that will be located adjacent to the new Transbay Transit Center at 1st and Mission streets in San Francisco's developing Rincon Hill neighborhood.

The purpose of the EIR, according to the SF Planning Department's notice of preparation of an EIR, is to "provide information about potential significant physical environmental effects of the proposed project, to identify possible ways to minimize the significant effects, and to describe and analyze possible alternatives to the proposed project."

The Transit Center District Plan area is roughly bounded by Market Street, the Embarcadero, Folsom Street, and Third Street. The Plan affects the developments that will appear on property currently used as parking lots and owned by Caltrans along Folsom Street.  Folsom will become the central spine of the Rincon Hill neighborhood with densely populated residential blocks near Folsom and south to the Bay Bridge and mostly office buildings north of that area.

Written comments will be accepted at the meeting and until the close of business on August 19, 2008. Written comments can be sent to Bill Wycko, Acting Environmental Review Officer, Transit Center District Plan NOP, San Francisco Planning Department, 1650 Mission Street, Suite 400, San Francisco, CA 94103.
