Early reports are that a lone male shooter named Jason Rodriguez went on a rampage Friday morning and, at the time of this report, seven people have been rushed to surrounding hospitals (six with gun shot wounds and one with chest pains). The lone gunman is apparently an ex-employee of one of the businesses operating in the Gateway Center located at 1000 Legion Place in Downtown Orlando.
This sad story is just one more example of a person who apparently just snapped. It makes a person wonder… What should we count on for tomorrow?
People have a habit of living each day with certain expectations for tomorrow. We make detailed plans and affix our focus on completing those plans. But, do we ever really know what is going to happen tomorrow? After all, as the saying goes, “tomorrow is another day.”
The Bible says, “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth” (Proverbs 27:1). So, “come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.’ Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that’” (James 4:13-15).
So, live in the now and live each day to its fullest seeking first His kingdom and His righteousness. After that, there is no need to “worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:33-34).
