The City of Seattle held a meeting to discuss Mayor Nickels' plan to ban guns on city property. But as the Seattle PI asks, "where was the mayor?"

In Seattle's case, the mayor's ban has plenty of quiet citizen support. Nickels has taken a strong, very personal stand on this issue. Being there and hearing the vocal minority would have paid off in added credibility.

Indeed: not only is Nickels proposal getting very loud criticism from citizens and gun activists, but the state Attorney General has warned that his plan is illegal. Local gun regulations cannot trump state law. Yet he's pushing the plan ahead. This issue deserved his personal advocacy.
